How common are finasteride’s side effects?

Minoxidil, otherwise known as Rogaine, is an over-the-counter hair loss treatment that has been popular for decades. Recently, the topical formula has been combined with Propecia, a prescription-only drug that is designed to treat male pattern baldness, to create a popular solution known as Rogaine Hair Regrowth Foam. Finasteride, one of the active ingredients in Propecia, is actually a testosterone inhibitor that works by shutting down more than just the production of DHT. When acting on hair follicles, finasteride inhibits the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which is responsible for converting testosterone to DHT, a hormone that shrinks hair follicles. The medical community has known for some time that finasteride can cause some unwanted side effects. These range anywhere from sexual health problems to complete development of breasts in males and mood changes, according to Dr. Michael H. H. Goh. These side effects occur in approximately 5 percent of the men who take finasteride, but most of these side effects are mild and go away after the drug wears off. However, these side effects can become permanent if they’re left untreated. There are many effective long-term strategies for reducing the negative effects of finasteride, but the first step is recognizing that the side effects exist.

Finasteride: Just the Facts

Finasteride is a type of drug called a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor. It belongs to a larger class of drug called an S.A.R.I. (selective alpha-reductase inhibitor). These types of drugs are used to treat men and women with hair loss, or with enlarged prostates (in the case of finasteride) because they block an enzyme that may contribute to these types of conditions.

Despite the seemingly broad range of applications for finasteride, it is mainly prescribed for treating conditions related to an enlarged prostate in men and conditions related to hair loss in both men and women.

Finasteride can only be obtained by prescription which means that you will need to see a medical professional to determine if it is right for you.

Your medical professional will also want to see baseline blood tests to rule out any pre-existing conditions before he or she proceeds. The most common side effects of finasteride are a lowered sex drive or an inability to achieve an erection.

The Hype Machine and How Myths Evolve

The reasons why hair loss occurs and the causes for it are very varied. Although some scientific research exists for some factors, others are only supported by anecdotal evidence.

There are many factors contributing to hair loss. Some are true causes and others are red herrings. This paper aims to debunk the hype on several.

Finasteride is a prescription drug used to treat androgenetic alopecia, more commonly known as male pattern baldness. It is a member of a group of drugs known as 5 alpha reductase inhibitors.

Although initially promising, the drug has been marred in controversy since its release. It has allegedly been associated with a range of side effects from libido changes, impotence, depression and suicidal tendencies, to prostate problems.

Below are various arguments often made about the adverse effects of finasteride, as well as methodology of the clinical trials showing the drug's efficacy.

This is a continuation of my previous article on how to get your money back if adverse reactions are caused by the use of finasteride.

How long do Propecia side effects last after stopping?

Propecia (finasteride) is used to treat hereditary hair loss in men. And it is a commonly used treatment for this condition.

Men who suddenly stop taking propecia or whenever a patient switches to another treatment method, the effects of the drug remain in your system for months.

The effects are often experienced by most patients in waves, and sometimes even years after stopping the medication.

We came to know about the harmful effects of propecia only after a large number of men who used the drug started reporting their experiences on online forums and chat groups.

Individual cases have also been reported in the media and documented thoroughly by Consumer Reports, PropeciaHelp and others.

Regardless of whether this drug has been approved by the FDA for use or not, the discovery of devastating side effects a result of the use of this drug has definitely curtailed its use.

If you are addicted to using finasteride or any other hair loss solutions, it is best you switch to the safer and more natural methods to treat your hair loss.

Many of the users have reported that the side effects seem to last longer when compared to the benefits of using the drug.

Autosomal dominant pattern hair loss is the most common type of hair loss in men.

Men have been using trusted methods for treatment of this since long before Propecia was approved for marketing.

How to reduce side effects of finasteride using these 7 methods (A simple, illustrated guide)

Finasteride is a medication commonly used in treating an enlarged prostate and male pattern baldness (hair loss). It is a well known fact that finasteride has life-changing effects in the body, especially on the prostate gland. So it is important you understand that not all of the side effects of finasteride will be entirely pleasant. If you are reading this guide, you probably have heard about the negative side effects of finasteride before, such as erectile dysfunction, and you are looking to find ways to reduce those side effects.

In this guide, you will learn 7 ways to reduce the side effects of finasteride, including:

  • How to reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction
  • How to reduce the risk of depression
  • How to reduce the risk of losing your libido
  • How to reduce loss of sensitivity
  • How to reduce chances of hair loss
  • How to reduce the chance of breast enlargement
  • How to maintain normal prostate size and function
  • So without further ado, let us begin!

Decreasing Estrogen (Estradiol)

The most typical way to prevent E2-induced side effects is with estrogen blockers. The most popular of these is Proscar. Proscar blocks the enzyme that converts testosterone to its active form, dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

There are other medications that block DHT production; however, they are not commonly used because Proscar is equally as effective, but is more convenient and easier to take because of its once daily dosing.

There are also natural alternatives to Proscar. Some of these methods include cinnamon and lavender essential oils, olive leaf extract, and saw palmetto extract. All of these methods work fairly well at blocking E2-induced side effects due to a reduction in aromatase activity.

Aromatase is that enzyme that converts testosterone to estrogens.

Boosting Libido, Increasing Semen Volume, and Improving Erectile Function

There are many treatment options for hair loss. Finasteride is the most common and it was designed to treat enlarged prostate.

The main side effect of this medication is low libido.

In this article I'm going to share some proven ways to help boost your libido, increase your semen volume, and improve erectile function safely and naturally.

Over time, many people that take finasteride saw that their erections and their libido also diminished. Some also saw a drop in their semen volume as well.

Whether this happens depends on the person, but if it does, then stop taking finasteride immediately.

You can also get temporary sides after stopping the medication for awhile.

This is because finasteride works by decreasing the amount of testosterone in your system.

When you stop taking finasteride, your levels of testosterone will rise back to normal and this can cause a number of problems, including an increase in libido and decreased semen volume, in some cases.

There are also a number of other side effects that have been reported by people who take it.

The good news is that some of these symptoms can be reduced by some very easy lifestyle changes and some natural supplements and food items.

You can reduce libido loss and increase semen volume with this method.

Increase Zinc

Zinc is a mineral that has been proven to help with this issue.

Increasing Your Nitric Oxide Levels

Nitric oxide is a natural vasodilator, which means that it widens blood vessels and increases blood flow. This widens capillaries in the scalp and promotes increased levels of oxygen in the blood.

More oxygen in the blood means more oxygen can reach your hair follicles. This stimulates them to decrease DHT levels. If you have a higher level of nitric oxide, the negative side effects of finasteride will be greatly minimized.

In order to increase your nitric oxide levels, you should take a nitric oxide supplement containing inorganic nitrate. You can also follow a healthy diet rich in nitrates that you are familiar with.

Some foods high in nitrates are leafy vegetables and beet juice. Some nitrate supplements are inorganic nitrate, beet root powder, spirulina, broccoli, and tomatoes. Nitric oxide supplements are made from a chemical called L-Arginine.

You can purchase L-Arginine as a single ingredient supplement, or you can get a combination of L-arginine and another ingredient, such as L-citrulline, L-ornithine, AAKG, lysine, DMAA and/or and vitamin B6 under several names including Agmatine, Mind Max, Vaso-6 and Neuro-Bay2.

ED Pills

Finasteride is the most effective oral medication for reducing hair loss caused by Androgenetic Alopecia (referred to as baldness). It is proven to effectively buy pp1 from DHT, the primary cause of hair follicle miniaturization and even regrow hair, especially when used as a part of a coupled therapy. Finasteride is available only by prescription.

Finasteride is an effective drug to fight hair loss. It slows down the process of hair loss & helps prevent further hair loss. However, out of all the side effects that finasteride can cause, difficulty in reaching orgasm or erectile dysfunction is the most common.

What is Hair Loss?

Hair Loss is a condition when small areas of hair follicle die due to extremely high amount of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This high amount of DHT is formed when 5-alpha reductase converts testosterone into DHT. This in turn destroys hair follicles gradually.

How to Reduce Side Effects of Finasteride

Use Finasteride in the right doses & for the right time.

The appropriate dose will be different for each one depending on their genetic sensitivity. If you are using finasteride, you might experience side effects if you use it a higher dose than recommended or if you use it for a longer duration than recommended.

Reduce the Dose

Men's hair loss medication, Finasteride, is such a common drug to treat hair loss that it is easy to forget that it is also a drug. Many users of this medication report that, among other side effects, it is intensely uncomfortable for them to be exposed to more than the recommended dose of finasteride. At 0.25 mg of finasteride, the recommended dose, many men report that they can achieve the results they want, but still suffer some of the side effects that cause them to want to stop using the medication. However, if you reduce the dosage of Finasteride, you may be able to decrease the number of side effects you suffer.

Reducing How Often You Take It

The recommended dose for Propecia is only meant to be taken on a daily basis.

This is a common question that many people ask, but there are better ways to reduce the side effects. Avoiding taking it every other day, or simply just taking this drug once a week, will not make Propecia any safer, but rather it will be creating the perfect environment for the side effects to occur. It is recommended that you take the drug, Propecia, once a day.

Additionally, it is important to take this drug before you consume alcohol. This is because alcohol can have a harmful effect to your liver, which in turn can have a negative effect to the drug. Not to mention the fact that alcohol may actually cause you to tear more hair out.

With all that being said, you can believe how critical it is for you to speak to your doctor about the severity of your side effects and if he/she can reduce your dosage. Also, make sure that your doctor gives you advice on how you can alter your schedule to consume it. There is a possibility that your doctor can have you take Propecia once every few weeks, as opposed to once a day. It is important to keep the dose at 5mg, but if you are suffering from more side effects than benefits, you can definitely speak to your doctor about getting a lower dose!

Using Topical Finasteride

You might have heard of the Propecia Minoxidil method that has been proven to be effective for hair loss treatment. However, Minoxidil has been linked to some nasty side effects, and it cannot be used on the front of the scalp. Finasteride is a much safer and reliable hair loss treatment alternative that does not result in any major side effects. In fact, if used properly, it can be safely used for the rest of your life. However, its own minor side effects, together with the side effects caused by the usage of Minoxidil, can actually result in an undesirable outcome for your hair.

The results of this hair loss treatment will be even more evident if you apply Finasteride on the front of your hairline as opposed to the crown area. The good news is that the drug can be used on the front of the hairline, but will require a different application method. If you want to use the drug on the front of your hairline without facing the side effects of using Minoxidil, consider using Finasteride topically in the form of a shampoo, as opposed to an oral medication. The ingredient finasteride is not very soluble in water, so if you use it on the front of your hairline, it can actually remain suspended in the mixture, resulting in reduced hair thinning.

But wait … is more help on the way?

Is your doctor about to prescribe a common drug for treating male-pattern baldness called Finasteride? You may be experiencing some of the uncomfortable, embarrassing, and even dangerous side effects. According to the Mayo Clinic, Finasteride can cause impotence, reduce sexual sensitivity, cause erectile dysfunction, loss of libido, and even shrink your penis! Many men have suffered for years from these side effects due to the fact that the drug is prescribed for a long period of time and with no other drugs to balance out the effect.

What many patients don’t realize is that there are ways to help reduce these side effects so that you can continue to receive the medical benefits while reducing side effects. There are also ways to reduce the risk of side effects before it becomes a problem.
